Compared to the PowerBlock Elite model, the PowerBlock Sport 24-Pound Dumbbell Set can be seen as the younger brother. These dumbbells utilize the same great design as our favorite but feature a smaller overall weight with more frequent increments. This alone makes this model great for women or those new to weightlifting as it provides a very steady and gradual resistance.
Benefits of the PowerBlock Sport 24-Pound Dumbbell Set
Same Great Design as the PowerBlock Elite Set
Many of the great features seen on the Elite series set, which can be seen here, are on the Sport 24 set. Weightlifters will appreciate the compact and tight design of these dumbbells which helps to keep them balanced and with less lateral movement.
They’re easily adjustable, and the selector pin allows you to change the resistance quickly and without any trouble.
More Frequent Increments
Unlike the Elite set, these dumbbells are broken down into 3-pound increments all the way up to 24. This effectively gives you 8 different dumbbells that gradually increase in weight. For someone new to weightlifting or the experienced lifter really looking to hone in on gradual progress for smaller muscle groups, this feature is for you.
Perfect for Travel
Since it isn’t practical to travel with an entire set of weights or the heavier PowerBlock Elites, these dumbbells are great for travel. They take up very little space and can easily be placed in the trunk of a car or the back seat. Given their mostly metal design, these dumbbells can take the abuse from moving one location to the next.
The Right Price Point
Currently, these dumbbells are sitting well under $200 on Amazon. Compared to purchasing a set of 8 dumbbells, and paying about $1/pound, these dumbbells are already the more affordable option. A set of 8 dumbbells from 3 to 24 pounds will run the average person around $200+ before shipping is even applied.
A Great Company Behind the Product
PowerBlock backs their products with a 10-year warranty, so your equipment is already protected against manufacturer defects or the occasional part replacement. It doesn’t take any more than a phone call or email to get in touch with someone that can quickly help you with your problem and get you back to working out.
Drawbacks of the PowerBlock Sport 24-Pound Dumbbell Set
No Expansion Pack Available
Unlike the Elite model, this set does not have the ability to be upgraded. This could be a real bummer if you need resistance past the maximum of 24 pounds. Once you hit this point, you will need to buy another, larger model. While this does not yield the Sport 24 useless, you may now have the option of using the Sport 24 for lower weight exercises and the Elite set for heavier sets.
Must Be Set on a Flat Surface
In order to adjust the weight on the dumbbells, you will need to place them on a flat, hard surface. Users have reported the pin can be finicky if adjusting the weight is attempted on carpet or another non-flat surface. This normally isn’t a deal breaker, but it is recommended to purchase a set of stands, or at least a workout mat to place them on.
These are a fantastic set of dumbbells for nearly anyone. For someone that has not yet built up their strength and is serious about getting into resistance training, this set is for you. Users who have another set of adjustable dumbbells may want to have a set like this for lighter weight exercises. This way there is a less time between switching weights and supersets may be able to be done quicker.
